Te Puna Marama - Moonspring Planting Day

Te Puna Marama - Moonspring Planting Day

6th June 2026

Our inaugural planting day at Te Puna Marama Moonspring was a fantastic success!

Following the recent rubbish clean-up by the Waikato Equine Vet Centre team, weed-whacking by Murray, and spraying by the Cambridge Tree Trust, we were excited to get our first plants in the ground.\

Despite a rather threatening weather forecast, 36 volunteers, including many new faces turned up bright and early on Saturday morning, armed with gumboots, spades, and plenty of enthusiasm. Thanks to the generous donation of 1,200 sedges from Restore Native, we had plenty to keep us busy.

After a welcome from Peter and a planting demonstration from Barry, volunteers spread out across the site, following the pink marker dots sprayed in advance to guide even planting.

The morning was filled with teamwork, conversation, and plenty of laughs.  Before long all 1,200 plants were in the ground - well ahead of schedule. It seems the weather gods were smiling on us too, with the rain holding off until after the last plant was tucked in and we packed up.

Thank you to everyone who came along.  We can’t wait for our next event.

Congratulations to our T-shirt winner on the day - Ellen
