Te Puna Marama below Resthaven Village Centre, off Vogel Street

Join us for an afternoon session and good company with a little hands on care for our growing seedlings.

We are heading back to Te Puna Marama Moonspring to continue our weed and release programe as spring gets underway.  Whether you joined us before for planting, are one of our regular volunteers or would just like to get involved, we would love to have you join us.

After our Sunday session on the 18th October, there is still more work to be done, vital work to ensure all our plants get a change to thrive and not be overtaken by weeds.

We have 2 weeks of afternoon Wednesday sessions coming up and look forward to seeing you there.

Session One

When: Tuesday 27th October 2026
Time: 5:30pm - 7:00pm
Where: Moonspring Extension area, Te Puna Marama Moonspring, off Vogel Street, Cambridge.

Session Two

When: Friday 30th October 2026
Time:
5:30pm - 7:00pm
Where:
Moonspring Extension area, Te Puna Marama Moonspring, off Vogel Street, Cambridge.

You’ll find us onsite along the public path that runs from Resthaven Village Centre down towards the river.

What is a weed and release?

It’s all about giving our young plants room to grow.  We’ll be clearing weeds and grass from around the seedlings so they have better access to sunlight, water and nutrients, without being crowded out.

Planting is just the beginning, and this ongoing care is an important part of helping our restoration work thrive, especially now that spring is here.

Please see the attached document at the bottom of this page for further details to support your understanding on what it means to release plants.

Come along and lend a hand

You don’t need to be an experienced gardener to get involved.  We’ll help you identify what needs to stay and what can go, and show you how to clear around the seedlings carefully.

Come for the full session or lend a hand for whatever time you can spare.  Every little bit helps, and there is always time for a chat along the way.

What to bring in the afternoon:

  • Closed-toe shoes, sturdy boots or gumboots.

  • Gardening gloves.

  • Clothing suitable for the weather, including a hat if the suns out.

  • A hi-vis vest if you have one.

  • A bottle of water.

  • Any snacks you might need to keep you going.

  • Small gardening hand tools, such as a hand fork/weeding tool, clippers/hedge trimmers if you have them.

Please dress for working outdoors and take care on any uneven or slippery ground.

Please RSVP to help us organise

If you have any questions, please get in touch at connect@arohacambridge.nz.

We look forward to seeing you there and giving our little plants some love
